Para pelanggan boleh menonton lebih 190 program yang dibawakan secara istimewa oleh Astro sempena menyambut Hari Kemerdekaan Malaysia yang ke-56. Daripada jumlah itu, 60 program adalah yang pertama kali disiarkan seperti ‘Inspirasi Negaraku dan U Wartawan: Tanah Tumpah Darahku, Di Sebalik Kegemilangan dan Merdeka Tournament, My New Village Stories (Sr3) dan AIM Awards, Kaalathaal Marakkapatta dan Paathodu Settai

Sempena sambutan kemerdekaan, Kempen Negaraku The Best Of 1 Malaysia yang dianjurkan oleh Astro ini bakal berlangsung bermula 15 Ogos hingga 16 September 2013 bagi meraikan kepelbagaian yang wujud di Malaysia dan mampu dinikmati oleh para pelanggan menerusi satelit DTH, IPTV dan Astro On-The-Go.

Antara program yang akan ditayangkan adalah seperti Tastemakers yang memaparkan kejayaan rakyat Malaysia yang diinspirasikan oleh Yuna, Sereni dan Shentel, Joel Neoh dan Ifzan Ibrahim di LI HD (Saluran 728), Ride & Seek; sebuah dokumenteri berkenaan perkara yang menarik dan yang paling jarang dilakukan di setiap negeri di Malaysia manakala para penonton yang meminati program bersejarah boleh menonton dokumentari yang menyoroti pembangunan dan pencapaian Malaysia selama 50 tahun sejak tahun 1963 berjudul, Malaysia: Through the Decades di NGC (Saluran 553) dan Lost Over France: Malaya’s Unsung Hero di History dan History HD (Saluran 555 dan 575), kisah tentang sebuah keluarga yang menentang British sewaktu Perang Dunia ke-2 dan juga kisah pesawat perang – The Hawker Typhoon. In the early morning of 11th September 1941, Penang Island, a two century old British Fortress of the Far East and once known as The Paradise Island, was bombed to it’s core by the Imperial Japanese Airforce.
Up to that point, Penang – a flourishing port connecting South East Asia to the Indian Ocean – new little about the war and a false sense of security circulated around the island.
When the planes did come, residents crowded the streets unaware of what was about to happen. As the reign of Japanese terror unleashed itself upon the local population, Penang Island soon found them selves abandoned by British Forces.

World Café Asia 2 Ep 2 Malacca	TLC	707	18 August 2013	11pm	The Malaysian city of Malacca is famed for its Peranakan heritage – descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca and Singapore, inter-marrying with local Malays. The resulting Nyonya cuisine is the blending of Chinese ingredients and wok-cooking techniques with spices used by the Malay community. The food is tangy, aromatic, spicy and herbal with key ingredients like coconut milk, galangal, pandan leaves, lemongrass and cincaluk – a powerfully flavored, sour and salty shrimp-based condiment that is typically mixed with lime juice, chillies and shallots. Setting it apart from its other Peranakan counterpart Penang, is its use of coconut milk – Penang being further north shows Thai influences, such as more liberal use of tamarind and other sour ingredients. Adding to this Peranakan influence is also the Portuguese colonists who contributed dishes like Devil’s Curry to the town’s already rich cuisine. Bobby explored the charming Malaysian city of Malacca in a wildly decorated trishaw and discovered the Straits Chinese culture and its influence of food here which can be seen in dishes such as the easily available Nyonya Laksa and Nyonya kuih. Bobby met up with Florence Tan, affectionately known as the “Queen of Nyonya Cusine” who brought him on a Peranakan tour starting with the Baba and Nyonya Museum, to Charlie’s where he learned about the preparation of the Nyonya cakes and snacks, to street stalls famed for its Nyonya cuisine. Bobby then visited A Formosa, a fortress built by the Portuguese during its reign to protect city from invaders. It is among the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. Bobby also visited The Stadhuys that was once a centre of the Dutch administration in Malacca. It is believed to be the oldest Dutch building in the East. From history to trade, Bobby decided to try his hand at fishing with the local fisherman and set off in the ocean to catch some fish! He then attempted to sell his catch at the local fish stall but was unfortunately not very successive! Sticking to what he knows best, Bobby met up with Michael, owner of Seafarer to learn how to make the very famous and popular dish – Ikan Bakar which is simply barbequed fish with lots and lots of special chili sauce! A weekend in Malacca is incomplete without a visit to Jonker Street night market. So with Lynette in tow, Bobby ate his way through the various street food available in this colorful night market. After learning all about the rich Peranakan culture, Bobby attempted his hand at making a famous Peranakan dish – Ayam Buah Keluak with the help of Marcia, the owner of Bibik Neo, a popular Peranakan restaurant. Besides learning how to make Ayam Buah Keluak, Bobby also made Chicken Rice Balls, an obvious Chinese dish, and Devil’s Curry, a Portuguese Eurasian dish that is fiery hot!

Man Made Marvels Kuala Lumpur Flood Control	DISC	551	25 August 2013	9pm	Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s Capital, is under siege from flash floods, powerful forces of nature that bring the city to its knees. But Kuala Lumpur is fighting back. The city is mounting a daring construction project to try to bring the mighty floods under control. The plan calls for fours lines of defence. The first: Massive floodgates to stop the main rivers in their tracks. The second: Six kilometres of canals to divert the flood waters away from Downtown KL. The third: The world’s first SMART tunnel – a giant storm water pipe that doubles as an underground highway. The fourth and final line of defence: Huge ponds to store the water until the floods recede. It will be an epic battle of man versus nature; fought on the front lines of a modern city. If they can pull it off it will be a man made marvel, but it won’t be easy. The floodgates must be built in the rivers during the rainy season; the canal design must compensate for serious lack of space; and the ponds are a disaster waiting to happen if they cannot overcome the unstable soil conditions. But it’s the SMART tunnel that’s the most challenging part of this epic plan. A dual purpose tunnel has never been built before “…We were definitely venturing into the unknown really in engineering terms, in many aspects of the project…” If that weren’t enough, Kuala Lumpur is built on karst limestone; a dangerous network of cavities that can collapse without warning. If the engineers make any mistakes tunnelling through this underground minefield, giant sinkholes could open up in the city above. The construction elements are not the only challenge. Kuala Lumpur can go from situation normal to a flood in less than two hours. For this epic battle to ultimately succeed, they must also install a flood warning system faster than anything that has come before.

Jaime takes a ride around the island and spends a night at a heritage hotel to round off her colonial adventure. Marcus is a regular competitor in the Rainforest Challenge and Jaime gets to drive one of these hybrid beasts. Heading south to Bernam River, Jaime then meets Capt Andreas, who runs a flight school. She then races the plane along the runway before heading to Frasers Hill, a colonial hill station that time has forgotten. Performers at the event included the talented kid Rohanpreet along with Sumedha and Harpreet (all from Sa Re Ga Ma), Jai and Shakti (from DID) and Sushant (aka Manav) and Ankita (aka Archana) from Pavitra Rishta. The opening act was a spectacular performance by dancers from Malaysia Tourism, the main sponsor of the event. The highlight of the evening was Jai and Shakti, whose electrifying performance not only impressed the crowd but also left them wanting more. They were mobbed by the crowd when they went down the stage to meet them. The evening got more exciting with the appearance of Malaysia’s Bollywood icon, Datuk D.J. Dave. The magnificent show ended with all the artistes performing to the tunes of the popular “Jai Ho” with the audience jumping in joy.

Once a year, 85-year-old rice farmer Salleh Mohd. Nor and his team of honey hunters set out to scale these 60 metre tall trees in the forests of Pedu, Kedah. They only have a brief window of time to harvest their prize: one of the highest grades of honey in the world. Steeped in traditional beliefs and practices, the honey hunters take us on a journey to discover how ancient know-how may offer the key to understanding the science behind the giant bees.
Enigmatic Malaysia Episode 5	DISC	551	15 Sept 2013	10pm	500 years ago, the Portuguese Viceroy of India, Alfonso D’ Albuquerque, led an armada of 19 war ships with 800 Portuguese soldiers, destined for the ancient port city of Melaka. However this premeditated attack on Melaka to avenge the ill-treatment of a former mission was merely a front… with the ultimate mission being to capture Melaka, and gain control of the Eastern Spice Trade. Today’s Melakan Portuguese are descendants of 600 Portuguese soldiers who survived and were encouraged to assimilate with the locals, yet maintaining their unique identity. They attempt to cross 16 miles of impenetrable jungle where countless dangers wait for you in the undergrowth and in the rivers. This terrain destroys gears boxes, it rips out radiators and tears off tyres. It is the monsoon season and a rain shower can become a deadly flash flood in minutes. One way or the other there will be a lot of mud.

This time Fun Taiwan’s Janet is set to visit the third largest island in the world, Borneo, where the state of Sabah and Sarawak are located. Janet heads into Malaysia’s famous rainforest for an adventure, and arrives at the floating village of Weston to search for the Pinocchio of monkeys (proboscis monkeys). She also visits the village of “Cowboy of the Eest” – Bajau for a extravagant traditional wedding. No trip is complete without a visit to the local eateries, so Janet tries a bowl of rich Sarawakan laksa for breakfast and waits 45 minutes just to taste the famous “kolomee”.
Austin Steven’s Most Dangerous – In Search of Man-eating Python	ANIMAL PLANET	556	15 Sept 2013	11pm	Austin Stevens wants to journey to the heart of Borneo. The name alone conjures images of impenetrable jungles, deadly snakes, bloodthirsty leeches and clouds of biting insects. This is where Austin has dreamed of encountering the giant of all snakes — the reticulated python. “Retics” are known amongst zookeepers as being unpredictable and difficult to tame. These snakes are also quite capable of severing arteries with their quick strikes and razor-sharp teeth. Zookeepers say anything over three meters is dangerous. Austin hopes to find a nine-meter reticulated python. His search will take him from swimming with highly venomous sea kraits, to wading through swamps and into deep caves teeming with bats, scorpions, spiders and snakes
Weird Creatures with Nick Baker – Slow Loris	DISC HD	571	15 Sept 2013	8pm	Nick travels to the depths of the Bornean jungle to find the only poisonous primate in the world; the Slow Loris. It looks like a cuddly toy, but it carries a poison that can prove fatal, all delivered by large, powerful teeth; the Slow Loris is a weird creature with a lethal trick up its sleeve. Small, shy and nocturnal, it lives in the towering rainforest canopy. So to get closer Nick climbs 40m to spend a vertigo-riddled night from hell listening to the sounds of the jungle and wishing he was back on terra firma. Local tracker, Saimon, is on hand to share traditional techniques and build traps to lure the loris out of the trees. Whilst Nick waits for the poisonous primate to bite, he meets some other astonishing forest dwellers including his all-time favourite frog, the Wallace flying frog. He has just seven days in Borneo and having tried every trick in the field guide, what is it going to take to find the Slow Loris?

Our oceans frequently become dumping grounds for toxic wastes, rubbish and other harmful materials; all of which are major sources of pollution. Underwater clean-ups and conservation are great ways to help protect the marine environment. At the heart of the operation will be a massive non-stop 168 hour, 7 day, dive clean-up mission, involving over 160 divers, taking place at 14 dive sites surrounding the stunning Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu, in Sabah. In this epic eco-assignment, our divers will become the ‘Reef Rescuers’. But co-coordinating over 160 divers from around the world, and across Malaysia, will be no easy feat – especially when all of the ‘Reef Rescuers’ will be expected to clean up long into the night for seven continuous days. Our cameras will go behind the scenes of what it takes to ensure a complex system of support and emergency vessels, including the Malaysian Coast Guard, are prepared for any eventuality. World Café Asia Ep 2 Penang	TLC	707	16 Sept 2013	9pm	In this episode, viewers join Bobby as he heads to Penang, a small tropical island off North West Malaysia where the food is a unique blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian, all existing side by side. Bobby starts off by preparing a light Chinese salad called Carubu which uses the islander’s beloved nutmeg, followed by the popular Penang Laksa. On the sampling list for Bobby is fried oysters, barbeque chicken butts, bull testicles and Roti Canai. He even tries his hand at pulling tea, a technique used to cool the liquid while making it light and frothy.

At a local market, Bobby learns how to hypnotize a chicken before meeting up with Chef Florence, the queen of nonya cuisine to cook chicken rendang. Then Bobby’s culinary journey hits its high point when he cooks with Malaysian Food Ambassador and TV chef, the flamboyant Chef Wan. They cook ketam sri wangi, a crab dish that’s easy to make and yet captures the tastes of Malaysia. He eats his way through Kampong Bahru, a five-kilometer stretch of the weird and wonderful street food available in Kuala Lumpur to end his trip.
