Kuala Lumpur – Parenting has evolved throughout the years; it’s become more challenging than ever before. The hectic lives parents and children go through daily has resulted in families spending less quality time together. This means parents have no time to nurture their children while the kids are left to their own devices. Parents need to step up their game because without guidance, children are more likely to become delinquent and engage in risky behaviour.

Hence, in an effort to help parents enhance their parenting skills as well as promote good family values and strengthen family ties, Positive Parenting and KidZania have joined forces to organise the Parenting Talk-cum-Forum Series.

It was all about ‘Modern Parenting’ on the 6th of December at KidZania Kuala Lumpur as experts engaged and interacted with parents on forum topics such as how to use positivity in parenting and other effective parenting strategies. It was a rare opportunity for parents to learn from experts and key opinion leaders such as Clinical Psychologist, Assoc Prof Dr Alvin Ng, and Parenting Columnist, Ms Ruth Liew.

The crème de la crème of course, was the open forum titled ‘Disciplining Your Children in the Modern Era: Which Method Works?’, Parents and experts duked it out in a heated debate moderated by Consultant Paediatrician cum Positive Parenting Chairman, Datuk Dr Zulkifli Ismail.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Datuk Dr Zulkifli said, “Family comes first, therefore, we want parents to spend time with their children and build memories and strong relationships together with them. Children who have strong relationships with their parents will develop good moral values, which are also essential components for building their characters.”

The Parenting Talk-cum-Forum Series launch was officiated by Yang Berusaha Pn Noormah bt. Dato’ Hj. Abd. Rauf, Deputy Director General (Operational), Department of Social Welfare Malaysia, representing Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister of Women, Family & Community Development. In conjunction with the launch, the first of three Child & Family Development Supplement series was unveiled. The supplement focused on what parents can do to encourage a child’s love for learning, ways to strengthen family ties and how parents could communicate in a positive manner with their children.

Susanah Abdul Rani, Governor of KidZania Kuala Lumpur mentioned “The value proposition that KidZania Kuala Lumpur is trying to instil in children is “Learn Life Today”, whereby children learn life values through experience in role-play activities. With similar value proposition, we aim that the Parenting Forum will be able to empower parents with accurate, evidence-based, and practical information on modern parenting that focuses on injecting positive family values.”

“We trust that through this venture with KidZania Kuala Lumpur, we will be able to empower parents to do the best they can while guiding and enriching them in their journey through parenthood,” said Datuk Dr Zulkifli. He added that KidZania would also help support the initiative by distributing Positive Parenting’s in-house guide/magazine as well as the Supplement series in KidZania Kuala Lumpur. “This is indeed a great venture which helps the programme (Positive Parenting) reach out to more young parents nationwide,” said Datuk Dr Zulkifli before ending his speech.
