AJ “Pyro” Lias Mansor is ready to deliver a spectacular performance in Jakarta, Indonesia on Saturday, 19 January.

ONE: ETERNAL GLORY will mark ONE Championship’s first event of 2019, as well as the Sabah-based athlete’s first appearance in the world’s largest martial arts organization in two years.

Despite being out of action and recovering from life-threatening surgery, “Pyro” is prepared for his return after undergoing one of the best training camps of his career.

“My training camp has been brilliant,” the featherweight says. “I’ve sharpened various aspects of my martial arts game.”

The 43-year-old started his training camp at Infinity Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, where he practiced various techniques with BJJ specialist Ky Jeffers.

“I practiced my striking and grappling with Jeffers, and it really taught me a lot more,” he explains. “The beauty about this game is you learn something new every day.”

After a good week in the Malaysian capital, “Pyro” moved some 20 kilometers away to train at Bangsar Judo with Sensei Takahashi Masanori.

“It was quite an experience because I [have not] had a training camp for a while,” Mansor continues.

“With Masanori, I worked a lot on my conditioning, which is important. I’m not getting any younger.”

Mansor, the ONE Featherweight Malaysia Tournament Champion, admits there was very little rest time in between as he was eager to make sure he was in tip-top condition.

The Borneo Tribal Squad owner then traveled to Tiger Muay Thai & MMA in Phuket, Thailand for another week of preparation late last month.

“Over there, I continued to up my wrestling and grappling game with head coach George Hickman,” he adds. “Wrestling has always been my strength, but my striking has improved.”

“Pyro” will wrap up his training camp in Sabah before flying off to Jakarta for his bout against Indonesia’s Yohan “The Iceman” Mulia Legowo.

However, he plans to extend his training in the nation’s capital.

“I’ll return to my gym [Borneo Tribal Squad] for some final touches,” he says. “Then as soon as I land in Jakarta, I want to start my training. I do not have any time to waste.”

Mansor, who brings years of experience to the global stage, has also trained several of Malaysia’s most well-known martial artists including Ann “Athena” Osman, Audreylaura “Ice Comet” Boniface, and Hisyam “Zephyrus” Samsudin. He has also trained Filipino strawweight Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado.

Expect another masterful performance from the Malaysian martial arts pioneer come 19 January.
