(HIBURAN) OVER 7,000 FANS ROCK IT OUT AT ROCKAWAY FESTIVAL 2012

MxPx Allstars, Soulfly, Unearth, among big names at the rock festival this year

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 21 October 2012: Rockaway Festival 2012 rocked out more than 7000 moshpit punters and rock fans on Saturday night at the Sepang International Circuit. The organizers took this year’s festival one notch up from last year with the addition of the WKND Session Stage, a tent that housed over 500 avid indie music fans throughout the day.

“To everyone who made Rockaway Festival 2012 a success, thank you! All the international headliners commented on how Rockaway Festival was one of their best tours in 2012. We couldn’t be happier with such a statement and it simply the fans who came, totally rocked it out! We will see you guys at our special showcase in February 2013 and at the main show later in the year”, said Rahul Kukreja, director of LIVE Events of Livescape Asia.

The crowd started pouring in as early as 11.30am with festival revellers not short of activities as it featured more activation areas compared to the last. This year, the crowd was spoiled with choices with the inclusion of the Everyone Connects by TM tent, Friends of Red Bull Arena, a merchandise area and a very diverse food village. The biggest addition to the festival this year was the WKND Sessions Stage that was never short of audiences throughout the festival.

Over at the main stage performances began with some of Malaysia’s favourite rock bands including The Padangs, I, Revival and Massacre Conspiracy who played amazing sets that kept crowd rocking. Who would have thought to witness a circle pit as early as 2pm! KL’s favourite indie music DJ collective, twilight actiongirl played in between all band performances and nailed it with their mix variety of metal favourites.

The day progressed with even more stellar performances by Bunkface who rocked out anthems such as, ‘Bunk Anthem’, ‘Panik’, ‘Bunk Not Dead’ and more. Punk phenomenon, MxPx All Stars proceeded with an excitingly energetic set that enthralled the audience even more. The band rocked out tunes like ‘My Life Story’, ‘Young & Depressed’ and other hits. There was even more action with performances by Indonesia’s Pee Wee Gaskins, Gerhana Skacinta’s 10th anniversary show, Love Me Butch’s tight set before moving on to Unearth’s stellar Malaysian debut. The crowd responded with waves of body surfing and of course, non-stop moshing! Unearth played some fan favourites including ‘Dividers’, ‘Zombie’, ‘My Will Be Done’ and more.

Hujan toned things down with nothing short of an amazing set which included ‘Ke Selatan’, ‘Mana Mungkin’ feat Joe The Padangs and ended the set with ‘Rumah Kita’. The legendary Koffin Kanser played the perfect role as the opening band for Soulfly. Aside from playing their classic favourites like ‘Pegi Mampos’, they also played their renditions of reggae goodies.

By the time Soulfly got on stage, the crowd was more than ready for even more music mayhem. Frontman, Max Cavalera started the set by apologizing for taking 20 years to get to Malaysia as they opened with their hit, ‘World Scum’ off their latest album, Enslaved. They also played ‘Blood Fire War Hate and threw in Sepultura classics like ‘Refuse/Resist’ before completing their night with ‘Eye For An Eye’. It was also a great surprise for the fans when Max changed into our Harimau Malaya jersey.

The WKND Sessions Stage catered to those who prefer l tunes with the likes of Akta Angkasa, Sphere, Guba, Citizens of Ice Cream, Muck and more. Highlights of this latest addition to Rockaway Festival includes OAG’s return to the scene, Go Gerila’s amazing showcase, Plainsunset’s stellar set as well as Deer Society’s and Dizkopolis’ exciting DJ set.
