(SUKAN) ORCHID RUN & RIDE 2018 CONTRIBUTES RM400,000 TO CHARITY

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 Sept 2018 – The Orchid Run & Ride 2018, with the theme ‘United for a Cause – A Day with PETRONITA’, held at Persiaran KLCC today, successfully raised over RM400,000, surpassing the initial target of RM250,000 set by the organisers, the Association of Wives and Women Staff of PETRONAS (PETRONITA).

This donation benefits Institut Telinga, Pendengaran dan Pertuturan (Institute-HEARS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Centre for Special Care Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM); Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia; and Home Equipment Loan Programme (HELP) by PPUMCARE (Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya).

Today’s event is the fourth edition of Orchid Run & Ride, organised in collaboration with PETRONAS.

“Through Orchid Run & Ride, we wish to raise awareness for the less fortunate and encourage the public to unite in contributing towards a noble cause. At the same time, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle,” said President of PETRONITA Puan Sri Dr Azura Ahmad Tajuddin.

All four organisations received their mock cheques from Puan Sri Dr Azura, witnessed by PETRONAS President & Group CEO, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, during the event’s officiating ceremony.

Orchid Run & Ride 2018, was sold out in all categories, achieving the targeted participation of 7,000 runners and cyclists, which included members of the public, PETRONAS staff and management. Also present to support the event was Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Motorsport driver Lewis Hamilton, and Minister of Youth and Sports YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Apart from the run and ride, participants were also entertained by local talents such as Altimet, Nana Al Haleq and Drum Circle.

“PETRONITA would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the success of this event. With the support from the participants, sponsors, partners, volunteers and everyone involved, we were able to achieve this remarkable outcome. We even surpassed our collection of RM340,000 in 2017,” said Puan Sri Dr Azura.

Orchid Run & Ride will return in 2019 with more exciting activities lined up.
