Flag-off of cyclists at the inaugural Orchid Fun Run & Ride, which saw over 3,000 adults and children supporting the launch of Hari Sukan Negara 2015 at the KLCC Park.

“We are targeting to raise approximately RM200,000 which will be channeled to our beneficiaries namely the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Paediatric & Congenital Heart Centre (PCHC) of the National Heart Institute (IJN) and the National Intra Ocular Lens Bank, Ministry of Health Malaysia”, said Datin Dr Azura Ahmad Tajuddin, President of PETRONITA.

PETRONITA has been working closely with these charitable bodies which included its collaboration with Prince Court Medical Centre (PCMC) in the Sayangi Matamu project that successfully provided treatment to approximately 45 patients with cataract and eye-related diseases. This effort has been further amplified through joint efforts with the National Intra Ocular Lens Bank, enabling treatment to be extended nationwide to benefit more underprivileged patients.

In addition, members of PETRONITA worked with PCHC in spreading cheer and motivation to the young paediatric patients during the month of Ramadhan. Special arrangements were made to surprise the children with the presence of clowns and mascots, while individual wards were visited by volunteers who also delivered gift bags consisting iftar meals, toys as well as duit raya.
The Orchid Run & Ride 2016 is expected to attract more than double of last year’s participants. The inaugural event held last year saw over 3,000 runners and cyclist participate in the programme. Response this year has been encouraging whereby registrations for all categories have been sold out. There are two main categories, namely Category A – 12km Run: Men’s & Women’s Open (open to ages 16 years and above); and two sub categories under Category B, namely the 5km Fun Run (open to ages 7 years and above) and 5km Fun Ride (open to ages 12 years and above).
Orchid Run & Ride 2016 is set to be the largest sporting event organised by PETRONITA to date in collaboration with PETRONAS. The event will be officiated by PETRONAS President & Group CEO, Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.
