KUALA LUMPUR, 23 October 2016 — Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL) organised its annual ‘Wear It Pink’ Charity Hi-Tea fund-raising event to help underprivileged breast cancer patients acquire breast prostheses and special mastectomy brassieres. Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, the event also aimed to raise awareness among women about the importance of early breast cancer detection.
The ‘Wear It Pink’ Charity Hi-Tea 2016 event was officiated by Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz at Eastin Hotel as patron of ‘Wear It Pink’ Campaign 2016.
With the support and generosity of the participants at the Charity Hi-Tea, PHKL successfully raised funds to be given to both Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia and the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
“We hope to empower the lives of women who completed their cancer treatment and are now in remission, especially underprivileged women who have recently had their mastectomy. By providing them with free breast prostheses and custom-designed brassieres, we can help them recover their confidence and self-esteem as they get on with their normal lives,” said Dr Patricia Gomez, Consultant Breast Surgeon, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Chairperson of ‘Wear It Pink’ Charity Hi-Tea 2016.
The hi-tea event also featured a fashion show by breast cancer survivors donning designer outfits sponsored by Malaysian fashion designers Zanubah Hamzah from her Zanubah Collection and Izrin Ismail from her Innai Red Collection, as well as Indonesian designer Elsie Chrysila from her Elina & Elsie Collection. In addition, Elsie and Zanubah contributed an outfit and a painting respectively for auction at the Hi-Tea event to further boost the charity funds.
“At Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, we strongly advocate breast cancer screening and early detection of cancer to save lives. To further support this cause, we are subsidising the cost of our Digital Mammogram in October and November this year. We would like to encourage all women to consider this early detection method so that they can seek treatment immediately should they be diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Encik Anwar Anis, Chief Executive Officer of Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
