Celcom Axiata Berhad, the first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider in the country, has announced today that it has entered into an agreement with SK Planet, the leading e-Commerce player in Korea. Together, they have formed a joint venture company called Celcom Planet; for the purposes of collaborating to explore, seek and pursue e-Commerce business opportunities in Malaysia. This collaboration enables Celcom to further participate in the digital industry and build long-term capabilities in the digital space. The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Korea on 31 October 2014.
Celcom Axiata Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly said, “Celcom has achieved another major milestone today and it signifies our commitment to enrich our customers’ digital experience. This initiative underlines our expanding digital services portfolio, designed to create a digital ecosystem and to increase revenue streams that will eventually benefit our customers, service providers and content developers, as well as the traditional brick and mortar merchants.

Celcom Planet is expected to launch an optimised e-Commerce platform by the second half of 2015. Celcom Planet aims to be a market leader in Malaysia’s e-Commerce industry which is expected to grow rapidly as shoppers are now looking for competitive prices and a wider variety of products with convenience. SK Planet, established in October 2011 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SK Telecom, leads the revolution of online and mobile services platform with its Integrated Commerce, Digital Contents, and Advertising & Marketing Businesses. Currently, SK Planet through its 11st.co.kr – a leading e-Commerce open market in Korea, has served over 30 million consumers with its Gross Merchandise Value of USD5 billion in 2013.
