Selangor, 21 December 2015 – With the festive season upon us, Courts Malaysia, the nation’s leading electrical, IT and furniture retailer, and its partner, 1Malaysia for Youth (iM4U) recently brought joy and cheer to the children of House of Joy in Puchong, Selangor as part of the Rumah Amal Courts corporate social responsibility programme.
The visit was a joint effort between volunteers from Courts, iM4U and Majlis Belia Shah Alam, who came together to refurbish the Home and give it a cheery makeover. Courts also contributed basic household necessities such as bedding accessories and furniture worth RM 3,550, in addition to 42 personalised gifts for the kids and residents of the home, aged from 18 months to 85 years old, adding to the festive spirit.
“As the leading electrical, IT and furniture retailer in the country, Courts remains dedicated to helping the community, and inculcating a spirit of giving and togetherness amongst our staff. Essentially, we want to bring joy and cheer to the underprivileged, giving them more reasons to smile especially during this festive season. It was a pleasure to be able to revel in the festive season with the residents of House of Joy, which we hope will also herald a good start to the New Year,” said Mr. Tim Luce, CEO of Courts Malaysia.
Established in the early ‘90s, House of Joy is a non-profit charitable home founded by Pastor Tang Chee Sing and his wife, Lee Ching Mun. It administers shelter and care for underprivileged children and old folks, providing them the necessities they deserve, so that they can lead better lives.
“On behalf of the residents of House of Joy, we would like to thank Courts Malaysia and iM4U for their efforts in making a difference to the lives of the residents of the home. We are very appreciative of the new furniture and gifts, but nothing is better than seeing the residents, especially the kids, light up at being able to spend time with the teams who helped us set up the place for our Christmas celebrations,” said Pastor Tang.
Courts launched Rumah Amal Courts in March 2015, in conjunction with its 28th anniversary in Malaysia and is part of the company’s commitment to give back to the community it operates in. To facilitate its outreach efforts, Courts partnered iM4U – a non-profit organisation that helps to nurture and cultivate volunteerism amongst Malaysian youth through nation-building activities that can benefit communities and social groups. The year-long community outreach programme has since provided basic household necessities and electrical items worth RM 230,000 to 30 charity homes across the country.
“Our customers and the community are at the heart of all we do and we are constantly working on ways to make a positive impact and giving back to those in need. Our collaboration with iM4U has brought more heart to our business, as it paved the way for us to put our resources and capabilities to good use by reaching out to the less fortunate. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to iM4U in joining us to make a meaningful difference to these 30 schools, families and charity homes,” added Mr. Luce.
En. Azlan Rudy Malik, Chief Operating Officer of iM4U said, “We are honoured and thankful to be working alongside Courts Malaysia on this programme. We have seen first-hand how the programme has positively impacted the beneficiaries and lessened their physical and emotional burdens. We hope that the homes and families we have reached out to over the last year have benefited from this project and look forward to elevating this partnership in the coming year.”
Owing to the success of Rumah Amal Courts this year, the retailer plans to extend its partnership with iM4U in 2016, with more details to be released early next year.
