(SEMASA) Middle East retail major LULU opens its Second Hypermarket in Malaysia  Plans to open another four hypermarkets by 2020

Kuala Lumpur: Lulu Group, one of the largest retail operators in the Middle East & North African (MENA) region has further consolidated its presence in the Far East by opening its second hypermarket in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Malaysia officially inaugurated the Hypermarket in the presence of Ambassadors of various countries, prominent local businessmen and other dignitaries.

The new Hypermarket which is also Lulu’s 174th globally is strategically located at 1 Shamelin Mall in the Cheras district of capital Kuala Lumpur. The sprawling 80,000 square feet hypermarket has been designed using the latest retail space concepts and most modern technology for ease of shopping and will serve the residents of Cheras and its nearby areas for their daily shopping needs.

After the inauguration, Trade Minister and other dignitaries were led on a guided tour of the hypermarket by Yusuff Ali, Chairman of Lulu Group who briefed them about the various sections, unique features and amenities of the latest hypermarket.

The hypermarket has dedicated sections for grocery, dairy products, fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, dry goods, fashion garments, electronics, lT, stationery, sports, footwear, luggage among others.

A major highlight of the newly opened store is that it has an exclusive store-in-store for all “free from” food range that offer extensive imported line of Gluten-free, Organic, Sugar free. no-additives, nopreservatives and other specialty food from around the world. As always Lulu hypermarket provides the widest range of quality and value-for-money products all under one roof.

Yusuff Ali MA, Chairman of Lulu Group said “as declared during the inauguration of our first Hypermarket in Malaysia, we are firm on our expansion plans in Malaysia and are committed to launching four new hypermarkets in different parts of Malaysia before and of 2020. This includes projects

in Setia City Mall, Bangi Gateway, Bachang (Malacca) & Johor Bahru.”

He further added that ‘we are also exploring other markets In Malaysia and expect to create more than 5.000 Job opportunities to the Malaysian work force’. Lulu Malaysia currently employs more than 300 Malaysians in their two hypermarkets in Malaysia.

Support to SME

Yusuffali further stated that “Lulu Hypermarkets support local Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) to grow together by providing display spaces inside the hypermarkets which Will be a good platform for local companies to expand their business & also export their products to the Gulf countries. Presently, there are more than 100 local companies associated with Lulu Malaysia.

‘ln 2018. we exported Malaysian products such as fruits, vegetables. footwear, SME products, food. furniture worth US$ 10 million to our hypermarkets around the world and in 2019 20, we expect this grow to US$ 15 million”. added Yusuffali.

Also present during the inauguration ceremony were Saife Rupawaia, CEO, Ashraf All MA. Executive Director, Salim MA, Director and other top Lulu officials.
