(SEMASA) Team Pantheon’s design emerges as the Winner of Lafarge “Happiness” street art on wheels

More than 220,000 people recently voted for their favourite Lafarge “Happiness” truck design in the #happinessinthecity Truck Design Competition. It is the first-ever design competition for cement tankers and concrete trucks in Malaysia, part of Lafarge Malaysia’s “Happiness in the City” campaign.

All 14 colourful and beautiful cement tankers and concrete trucks were designed and painted by students from local universities and colleges, shortlisted from 42 submissions. After two weeks voting period from 1 August till 15 August 2017, Lafarge Malaysia revealed “Positive Energy”, “La La Land” and “Circle of Nature” as winning designs of the competition. The winners were picked based on 60% online voting, 30% judges marks and 10% on timeliness and safety compliance.

“This is the first-ever design competition for cement tankers and concrete trucks in Malaysia. Our effort to spread #happinessinthecity would not have been possible without the talent and passion of our creative and youthful participants. Congratulations to the winners and well-done to all finalists. The trucks will continue making their rounds on the roads going about their daily tasks until the end of this year, so keep a lookout for your dose of #happinessinthecity for the day and tag us on social media,” said Thierry Legrand, Lafarge Malaysia’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

The Champion, Team Pantheon will receive a total of RM3,000 cash. Their design Positive Energy features bright and cheerful colours signifying the cities and its advancement in the future. Runner-up Team Simple2 will receive RM2,000 cash, and Team Illustration Room will receive RM1,000 for their 3rd prize win. Fans’ Favourite Choice special recognition were also presented to the top 3 teams with the highest numbers of online votes.

“We were glad to be given an opportunity by Lafarge Malaysia to bring #happinessinthecity to the urban public through our art. We want people to view cities in a different perspective, and turning cement tankers and concrete trucks into works of art is certainly a fresh and inspired way to contribute to this new vision. It was a really fun experience designing and painting the truck and we would definitely participate again if Lafarge Malaysia is organising this competition again,” said a representative from Team Pantheon.

Dulux, the official paint partner of the #happinessinthecity Truck Design Competition also presented a special “Best Use of Colour” award to Team Simple2 for their design La La Land which was engaging, lively, and 3-dimensional. The winning design also demonstrated outstanding effort and creativity in the use of colours based on the 8 colours provided.

The Lafarge #happinessinthecity campaign kick started with Happiness in the City Index 2017 survey to engage urban residents, garner their views on the ideal city of the future, and gain better insights into the key areas for improvement for a happier, better city living especially in three major urban areas in Malaysia – Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru.

Upon the completion of the Truck Design Competition, Lafarge Malaysia will focus its commitment towards sustainable development, using the insights it has received from the Happiness in the City Index 2017 results. From now until the end of 2017, Lafarge Malaysia will be having a series of seminars and discussions around these topics.
