The Juggernaut Malaysia Open 2016 has returned with a two-day event powered by Under Armour that challenges the athlete’s strength, speed, power and conditioning.
The individual challenges were broken into four categories: RX Men, RX Women, Scaled Men and Scaled Women, which were held on 30th January. The RX category is specially designed for experienced athletes who have competed previously or have been training with fitness activities such as gymnastics, weightlifting and body conditioning for one year and above. On the other hand, the Scaled category is catered for athletes who are taking on their first competition and those who are still gaining experience in functional fitness competitions.
“This event is tied closely to Under Armour’s 2016 campaign Rule Yourself. The tagline “You are the sum of all your training” defines it all. The campaign represents athletes’ and fitness enthusiasts’ willpower to never give up, and the constant push to make themselves better. This is what the brand believes in, where one will be able to take up any challenge given anytime and anywhere.” said Lynn D Ong, Assistant Marketing Manager of UA Sports Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
“This year, the number of participation is double of what we had last year. The two-day event has brought a total of 154 participants from six different countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Korea, and the Philippines coming together to challenge one another, vying for the Juggernaut Belt. On top of that, we came up with a new category which is the Team Challenge due to the overwhelming feedback from previous participants. As you can see, the passion is real and this is for the community.” said Razlan Dawood, General Manager of AheM Ideas Sdn Bhd.
Adhering to international standards, the RX Male and Female finales saw the introduction of the GAUNTLET 2.0 which started with a series of three-minute rope climbs. After a minute’s rest, the series included a minute each of box jumps, snatches, cleans, shoulder-to-overheads, double unders, thrusters, toes-to-bars and muscle ups. Athletes certainly had to prove their mettle and were ranked based on the total repetitions completed for each movement.
