This coming Friday, 25 January, ONE Championship will hold its second event of the year. In the main event of ONE: HERO’S ASCENT, Filipino hero Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio defends his ONE Strawweight World Title against Brazil’s Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes in front of a capacity crowd in the Mall Of Asia Arena.
The co-main event is another bout of the highest order, as Team Lakay’s Honorio “The Rock” Banario goes toe-to-toe against America’s Lowen Tynanes in the first quarter-final of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.
Nine other matches will complete the memorable show.
Like those numbers? Here are a few more numbers to know about ONE: HERO’S ASCENT.
#1 – The match between Eustaquio and Moraes will be the first trilogy contest in ONE Championship history.
When these two first met for the inaugural ONE Flyweight World Title in September 2014, “Mikinho” submitted the Filipino via rear-naked choke.
Eustaquio avenged that loss in June when he took a split decision, and the belt, back to the Philippines.
Now, they settle the score in an effort to find out once and for all who the best flyweight on the planet truly is.
#2 – Mohammed is looking for victory, and knockout, number two against Japan’s Hiroaki Suzuki.
The Malaysian made an unforgettable debut in The Home Of Martial Arts in December, when he stopped Stergos “Greek Dynamite” Mikkios in the first round.
He will carry that momentum to ONE: HERO’S ASCENT, where he hopes to ascend up the bantamweight ranks.
#3 – The number of hometown heroes who will hope to bring pride to the Filipino flag.
Team Lakay’s Eustaquio, Banario, and Danny Kingad find themselves in world-class battles against top-level opponents at the Mall Of Asia Arena on Friday night.
The trio is hoping to extend their respective winning runs.
#4 – Moraes was on a four-bout win streak before losing to Eustaquio at ONE: PINNACLE OF POWER in June.
The 30-year-old former World Champion has only been defeated three times in his career (17-3), all via split decision.
On Friday, he will have his sights on regaining the belt via submission or KO.
#6 – The number of wins Banario has racked up in his last seven matches heading into his ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix showdown.
Banario, the inaugural ONE Featherweight World Champion, was on a losing streak when he opted to move up to his more natural weight class of lightweight.
Ever since the switch, he has regained his form. He will look to prove that further in Manila.
