Does Eduard “Landslide” Folayang still have what it takes to make another run at the ONE Lightweight World Championship
The answer to that question lies in his dream match against Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez when they clash at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES on Friday, 2 August at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
Folayang believes this match against Alvarez will be the perfect gauge for him to see where he truly stands at the loaded lightweight division of the organization.
Turning 35 this year, Folayang still feels at his best, but he knows at the end of the day, there’s no better way to test himself than facing one of the greatest lightweights to ever do it.
“This is very important because this is where I’ll my see future and where I am right now,” said Folayang.
“It’s like a measurement fight. This is where I’ll see if I still have what it takes and the things I need to do in order to become a champion again.”
But make no mistake about it, age won’t be a hindrance for Folayang when it comes to putting up a good show.
The soft-spoken kuya of Team Lakay sees this match being decided on the feet as he knows Alvarez’ willingness to stand and trade.
“I’m going to go toe-to-toe with him. It’s going to be a war and a fight for the fans,” Folayang said.
“Everyone’s going to love what we will do in the ring. I think it will be one of the most exciting fights of the year. Eddie always comes to fight and I never back down from a challenge. I’m ready to go.”
Knowing the support that he’ll be getting on Friday night, Folyang vows to be at his best as he plans not only to beat the well-known Alvarez, but also father time.
“The home crowd will certainly be a factor, especially since I’m facing a very good opponent. I think all of the fans know that,” said Folayang.
“They know what’s at stake and that’s why we should be at our best. Sometimes all they care for is winning or losing, so we really have to be better.”
