Phoe “Bushido” Thaw will do anything to improve his martial arts game – even if it means leaving Myanmar. This Sunday, 13 October, the featherweight star returns to action at ONE: CENTURY PART I against Yoon “The Big Heart” Chang Min in Tokyo, Japan.

He has trained in Japan and the famed Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand to prepare for this bout.

“Their welcome [has been] really wholehearted,” he said.

“They have given me priority during training sessions, and they have helped me to improve everything I require [for this match].”

It was not that Phoe Thaw could not train at his Team PT in Yangon, he just felt the need to be at his sharpest for a historic night of martial arts action.

The Burmese athlete boasts an 88-percent knockout ratio in The Home Of Martial Arts, and his only defeat came against a high-level grappler in the form of Malaysia’s Keanu Subba.

He knows the canvas is somewhat uncharted territory for him, and that could be something his opponent will exploit in Tokyo, Japan, this Sunday.

“I have to face and be tested on my weak points. I’m preparing to eliminate this weak point, so I can’t be defeated easily by wrestling,” Phoe Thaw offered.

“Most of the training plans [in Japan] are ground techniques and practicing with wrestlers, so it will be a useful experience for me when I compete.”

“He is good at wrestling and also a good boxer. I’m known as a stand-up fighter. That is why his game plan could be to compete with me on the ground.”

“Bushido” wants to level the playing field but stresses that victory is far from guaranteed against the undefeated South Korean martial artist.

However, he is confident he can exhibit the new skills he picked up to leave Japan with a ninth career win.

“I can’t fight him by whatever means I want. He can use both fighting styles – grappling and striking – so I have to prepare to face them.”

“I will use counter-attacks to knock him out [quickly]. If I can’t implement this tactic, the outcome of the match might be negative for me.”

The Home Of Martial Arts will break new ground as it brings multiple World Title bouts, a trio of World Grand Prix Championship Finals, and several World Champion versus World Champion matches to the famous Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on 13 October.

CENTURY PART I  goes live on Astro Arena at 8:00am Malaysia Time (MYT) on Sunday, 13 October. The main card starts at 11:00am MYT.

CENTURY PART II gets underway at 4:00pm Malaysia Time (MYT) on Astro Super Sports 2. All the main card action will continue on that channel, but RTM TV2 will cut to the live broadcast at 7:30pm MYT. Also, the show will air via special delay on Astro Arena at 11:30pm MYT.
