26 September 2016, SUBANG – Firefly Airlines has set a new Malaysian record for the most number of paper planes origami displayed on a board forming the airline logo. The record was broken with a total of 5,770 paper planes origami during the 100% Malaysian event held on 24 September 2016 at The Curve.
“We would like to go beyond then just being an airline. This attempt is to include our paper plane origamis arranged as a Firefly logo. We want to be proud and carry our own pride,” said the proud Chief Executive Officer of Firefly, Ignatius Ong after receiving the certificate from a representative from Malaysian Book of Records.
There were performances throughout the 12 hours’ event from famous Malaysian Artists Man Bai, Radhi Khalid, Nadia AF, Alex Subryn, Gary Yap, Juliana Evans, Louisa Chong to keep the crowd participated and excited. A giant chalk-board was placed at The Piazza area where passers-by were allowed to share their thoughts and feelings about being 100% Malaysian. By the end of the day, the chalk-board was filled with so much love from the public of being a Malaysian.
The event saw the weekend crowd swamping and participating in the various competitions held such as the Nasi Lemak Eating competition, Teh Tarik competition, bungkus the Nasi Lemak competition and Malaysian Fruit Eating competition. Each competition had 10 participants and the winners who walked away proudly as a 100% Malaysian were Mohd Syarizal Bin Abidin from Cheras, Abdul Aziz Bin Mohd Soffian from Kepong, Norazhanie Binti Abu from Kuala Lumpur, Ms. Liaw Siew Lan from Malacca and Ahmed Abdul Aziz Matar from Damansara.
“Be it Nasi Lemak, Chee Cheong Fun, Tosai or Cendol, food has the power to bring Malaysians together, regardless of race, religion or background and eating is a favourite national past time for all Malaysians. Therefore, being a 100% Malaysian airline, we decided to connect and bring us all closer through the things that Also present to launch the event was Iskandar Mirza, Director of Domestic Promotion Division from Tourism Malaysia who said “Malaysia is truly unique in the sense we are blessed to be in a multicultural society. No doubt, we are all about food and tradition, apart from the best places we are proud of. Using the language of food and culture, to enjoy, share, staying united as one. Those are our weapons to tell the world that we are rich with many cultures, values and traditions. However, in a globalized world today, being independent doesn’t mean that we must continue to do things on our own but we Malaysians need to evolve to form smart partnerships to take advantage of speed and quality when delivering products and services”.
27 children from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Budriah, Kuala Lumpur came to join in the event and were treated with scrumptious Nasi Lemak and karipap from Kampong Kravers. Later in the evening, they partnered with other children who visited the mall via a Kids Colouring competition session.
“We want everyone out here to know that we are just not an ordinary airline, but we are a 100% Malaysian airline that give people different experience altogether. As for the underprivileged kids, we want them to be proud of being a Malaysian and also to experience the various exciting activities that we are having today. This provides opportunities for these children to meet people and be exposed to a variety of activities that is fun,” added Ignatius.
