Kuala Lumpur, 3 March 2016 – Locals and guests gathered as the completely overhauled badminton and sepak takraw court in Kampung Segambut Dalam earlier today, under the recently-launched FixMyCourt initiative was unveiled.

Spearheaded by FOX Sports Malaysia, the community enhancement effort aims to give back to the local community by revamping public courts to allow greater appreciation and love for sports. FixMyCourt also aspires to promote and support sporting development from the community level and encourage youths to spend their time in a healthier way.

As part of the initiative, the previously run-down badminton and sepak takraw court in Kampung Segambut Dalam were ‘vibrantly revamped with a fresh coat of paint and furnished with brand new lights as well as sports equipment such as racquets, shuttlecocks, and balls, while mobile mini football goal posts were also given considering the passion towards the nation’s most loved sport.

Vineet Puri, Territory Head (Malaysia) of FOX Network Groups said, “We know that our viewers are passionate and enthusiastic about watching and playing sports, but it is unfortunate that a large number of sporting facilities and courts within communities are worn-out and generally unplayable. This presented FOX Sports with a unique opportunity to enrich our viewers in the core essence of sports, by actually reaching out beyond the TV screens and refurbishing these facilities to provide a safer, more attractive way for communities to enjoy their favourite sporting activities.

“We are so happy that the first wave of FixMyCourt has been a success, and the testament to that are the eager and happy faces that we see around us today. It is encouraging to know that FixMyCourt could actually make a significant difference to the community and its people,” added Vineet.

Kampung Segambut Dalam was selected out of 56 submissions of run-down courts around the Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley area, as part of the first wave of the FixMyCourt campaign. The court was launched by Mr Vineet Puri and YBhg. Datuk Bahtiar Adnan, Community Liaison, Kommuniti 1Malaysia Segambut, while former national athletes Azlan Mubin (Sepak Takraw; Asian Games Silver Medallist), Noraseela Khalid, former national 400m hurdler at the 2012 Olympics, and Men’s 400m Sprint Malaysian Record holder, Mohd Zaiful Zainal Abidin were present. Along with them, big names in sports-entertainment like Ben Ibrahim and Ola Bola’s Michelle Lee (sports newscasters), Atilia Haron, Malaysia’s pop star turned certified yoga practitioner, and Leona Chin, Malaysia’s only female drifter and sports car racer also made their presence felt.

Speaking graciously in his welcoming speech, YBhg. Datuk Bahtiar Adnan admitted being shocked when he got the call from FNG to revamp the community court adding, “This is a very gracious effort and sends the right message to everyone in the community to start living healthier.”

“It also shows how the right use of social media can help a whole community, as our submissions actually came from the youth of this community,” he concluded.

The second wave of the campaign is set to kick-off in April where Malaysians are once again welcomed to upload photos of the worn-down courts to on Instagram with the hashtags #FixMyCourt and #FOXSportsGameOn in order to stand a chance to be selected for the make-over.
