KUALA LUMPUR, 2 December 2016 – SMK Dato Abdul Samad, Port Dickson was crowned the champion of the Courts Cup 2016 after defeating SMK Za’aba Kuala Pilah , while Muhamad Azim b. Mohd Rafik from the winning team secured the title as the ‘Most Valuable Player’ with 5 goals throughout the tournament today.
The one-day tournament was held at Padang 1 Utama after the completion of three days of Courts Liverpool Football Academy coaching clinics, which kicked off earlier this week. Students from six schools – MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu, SMK USJ 23, SMK Meru, SMK Dato Harun, SMK Datuk Haji Abdul Samad, and SMK Za’ba were specially trained by Liverpool Academy coaches – Billy Thomas Flynn, David Edward Kirner, and Mathew Murphy from the Academy
The Courts Liverpool Football Academy is part of a regional partnership between Liverpool FC and Courts Asia. As one of the leading electrical, IT, and furniture retailers in Southeast Asia, Courts is dedicated to developing local football from the grassroots. Low Bee Yin, Marketing Director of Courts Malaysia presented the Courts Cup trophy to winning team SMK Dato Abdul Samad and the Most Valuable Player, Muhammad Azim with exclusive Liverpool merchandise. Participants of the Courts Liverpool Academy this year also received certificates acknowledged by the current club ambassador, Ian Rush.
