The fastest-growing Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Asia, Tune Talk, will team up with Asia’s largest sports media property and the world’s most exciting MMA promotion, ONE Championship (ONE) this October to bring fight fans in Malaysia a week-long extravaganza dedicated solely to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Malaysians will get the chance to witness ONE’s unique brand of MMA at ONE: TIGERS OF ASIA on 9 October followed by the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts (MIMMA) Season 3 Grand Finals event on 10 October at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
ONE: TIGERS OF ASIA will also feature three Malaysian Super Fight Bouts, featuring top fighters and Tune Talk Warriors Peter Davis, Ev “E.T.” Ting and Malaysia’s first female MMA athlete, Ann “Athena” Osman.
Davis is arguably the best lightweight fighter from Malaysia and he is set to move his way up the ranks to prove worthy of a shot at the Lightweight World Champion title. Davis’ next test is a veteran from Queensland, Australia, Adrian “The Hunter” Pang.
“Every fight is tough. So it will be good to get a higher class opponent with a solid record like Adrian Pang. In his last fight, he had a great guard game and solid Muay Thai but of course I’m looking to stop the fight in the first round and give the crowd an exciting match,” said Davis, who is also known for his acting and modeling gigs in Malaysia.
Also on the card, 24-year-old featherweight Malaysian, Ev Ting, is also looking forward to emerge victorious again in the ONE cage. His upcoming opponent is Philippines’ top featherweight star Honorio Banario.
“On fight night, you will see an evolutionary version of the E.T. I’m training along side other hungry ONE contenders. My team and I’ve put in a lot of work and I’m confident I’ve what it takes to get the win. I’ll take Banario very seriously because he is extremely dangerous for any fighter. I’ll come locked and loaded for sure,” said Ting.
Another popular name who will be representing Malaysia is none other than Malaysia’s first female MMA star, Ann Osman. This time, she faces the toughest challenge in her fight career when she takes on Russia’s Irina Mazepa, who is a six-time Wushu world champion and a K1 world champion kickboxer.
“Mapeza is a tough contender and a kickboxing champion. I know she is strong but I have trained really hard with my team here at the Borneo Tribal Squad and I believe I’m up to the challenge. I’m super excited and at the same time under pressure to fight in front of my Malaysian fans. But the added pressure will definitely give me the boost to fight harder for a win,” said Osman.
Tune Talk has played a major role in the growth of MMA in Malaysia and one such major effort in developing the MMA scene in the country is through the creation of the amateur tournament – MIMMA. MIMMA serves as the platform for amateurs from around the country to compete before joining professional leagues such as ONE.
MIMMA Welterweight Champion, Agilan “Alligator” Thani, was one of the fighters who showed great potential last year and was given the opportunity to go professional early this year at ONE: AGE OF CHAMPIONS. He successfully debuted against Indonesia’s Reant Febriza Rainir, winning in round 1 via TKO (punches). Up next for him is Egypt’s Hisham Hiba.
Following Thani’s footsteps is MIMMA’s Featherweight Champion Keanu Subba. The younger brother of ONE Flyweight fighter, Gianni, is known for finishing his opponents fast and has never went into third round in all of his bouts. At ONE: TIGERS OF ASIA, Keanu will take on France’s Florian Garel and is determined to show the world what Malaysian fighters are made of.
