More than 250 children and adults from Kampung Pertak and nearby communities took part in the day’s exhibition and activities, which included a health check booth, nutrition talks, hygiene and sanitation education, road safety awareness talks and home firefighting classes.

Hulu Selangor District Health Officer, Dr Norhashimah Ariffin said: “The content of the program was developed based on the needs of the Orang Asli community in a bid to encourage awareness and knowledge about health and food nutrition, not forgetting the importance of hygiene and taking care of oneself.

“We have received a number of requests from the Orang Asli community to hold this awareness program especially for the children, due to a number of accidents involving Orang Asli children, when we were going around on our monthly visits to the public clinics around Hulu Selangor,” she added.

Fonterra Brands Malaysia General Manager Jose Miguel Porraz-Lando said that the company was honoured to be working alongside the Hulu Selangor District Health Office to encourage healthy and safe lifestyles in the Kampung Pertak area. He added that the event is in line with Fonterra’s on-going efforts to contribute to the community.

“The event was hosted at the community centre that Fonterra has supported for more than three years as part of our partnership with Yayasan Salam Malaysia.

“The partnership is focused on improving children’s and parent’s access to nutritional and educational knowledge, tools and facilities as a way to encourage healthy and balanced lifestyles in the community,” he said.

Fonterra has worked with Salam since 2013 to provide interactive learning facilities, health and nutrition-related initiatives and educational toolkits for the families in the area. Today’s event with the Hulu Selangor District Health Office was an extension of these efforts.

Mr Porraz-Lando added: “Working with the community of Kampung Pertak has been very rewarding and we hope our efforts in providing nutrition and educational support will help them lead healthier lives and give the children brighter opportunities.

“We were proud to be able to continue our efforts alongside the Hulu Selangor District Health Office at the event,” he said.
