Good fortune blessed Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team which went on to claim victory in the GT AM Masters class and a second place in the GT AM class at the recent Motul 12 Hours of Sepang, to kick start a strong campaign for its 2025 endurance racing season.

The trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh also completed the grueling 12-hour challenge 6th overall, finishing 4 laps adrift of the overall winning Ferrari at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit. The result was also identical to its accomplishment last year.

Victory for Viper Niza Racing Team had in fact originated in the pit well before the start of the race with the team only having about two days to prepare their Mercedes-AMG GT3 in time before the free practice session got underway. With the engine out, the team’s local mechanics worked feverishly around the clock to ensure the three drivers had a competitive package dialed in for the race.

With a crew of 15 mechanics, all of whom comprising of young as well as experienced local professionals, Viper Niza Racing Team is no underdog when it comes to competing at the highest levels of GT and endurance racing. This is owing to years of experience and exposure to competing in both Asia and Europe.

“This was a victory that belonged to the boys (the mechanics). The odds were initially stacked against us but the car arrived in Malaysia just in time from a rebuilt and from then on they were at their absolute best ensuring that we not only had a competitive car to race with but a problem-free 12 hours of racing,” said lead driver and Team Principal Khoo.

“It’s a great start to the year and we hope to keep this momentum going when we take on the remaining races planned for the season.”

Qualifying 7th fastest for the start of the race at Sepang, Khoo started the race for the trio, running consistently and subsequently solidifying their lead in class from as early as the halfway point.

Viper Niza Racing Team was due to travel to its first European race this weekend to take on the 12 Hours of Mugello in Italy. However, the team’s European debut will have to wait a while longer after being informed that the second of its Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars is unable to arrive in time for the race weekend.

The team is set to take on another 5 races this year. In the absence of Mugello this weekend, they will compete in the 12 Hours of Spa Francorchamps in Belgium from 18-20 April followed by the 12 Hours of Misano in Italy from 23-24 May. They then prepare for the 12 Hours of Paul Ricard in France from 3-5 July, the 24 Hours of Barcelona in Spain from 26-28 September and the finale Shanghai 8 Hours in October.

Viper Niza Racing continues to be backed by Motul in 2025, with other sponsors that include Endless & Momentum Autoparts; IWC as its Official Watch Brand; and Jen Orchard Gateway Hotel in Singapore.
