Kuala Lumpur, 1 December 2023 – In the aftermath of the post-pandemic world, where the mental and physical well-being of Malaysia’s youth is under siege, The Art of Living organisation is organising the RUN OF CHAMPIONS – a 4KM Fun Run designed to unite Malaysians against the scourge of drug addiction.

This bold step is necessary to address the alarming rise in issues related to mental health and substance abuse, especially with the recent surge in drug-related incidents and an unprecedented increase in suicide cases among adolescents.

Alarming Statistics In Malaysia

Malaysia has become a prime target for drug traffickers, and even the fear of severe penalties has not been able to curb the distribution and use of cocaine, heroin, opium and other dangerous drugs in the country.

It has been reported that:

  • Over 60,000 adolescents between the ages of 13-17 are currently using drugs.
  • A staggering 81% surge in suicide cases has been observed, with the numbers rising from 631 in 2020 to an alarming 1142 cases.
  • The prevalence of depression has skyrocketed from 20.9% to 59.2%, and anxiety from 32.3% to 55.1%.
  • The rural region of East Malaysia reports the highest prevalence of mental disorders at 43%, followed closely by the capital, Kuala Lumpur, at 40%.

RUN OF CHAMPIONS Fun Run

As part of the Art of Living’s commitment to positive change, the organisation is proud to present the RUN OF CHAMPIONS, a 3KM Fun Run aimed at bringing together Malaysians from all walks of life to support the fight against drug addiction.
