Sepang International Circuit (SIC) today officially launched the 2015 Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix (Malaysia MotoGP), to be held from 23 to 25 October 2015. The race, which is Round 17 of the 18-leg 2015 MotoGP World Championship, is also the 25th edition of the Malaysia MotoGP. The launch at KL Hilton saw the attendance of Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali, Chief Executive Officer of SIC, Tuan Haji Azman Ismail, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd, Leslie Ng, Shell Lubricants General Manager for Malaysia and Singapore and Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, Marketing Director for Domestic Tourism, Tourism Malaysia.

“This is a very special year for the Malaysia MotoGP as it marks the 25th anniversary of the event, from 1991 at the Batu Tiga Circuit in Shah Alam to its move to Sepang International Circuit in 1999 until now. It was the first major international motorsports event to be held at the Sepang Circuit and is the longest running international motorsports event hosted in Malaysia. The Malaysia MotoGP also continues to excite fans, as we can see by the consistent growth in attendance. In the last five years, we recorded more than 120,000 fans over three days annually from 2010 to 2014. This year, fans can expect exciting activities to mark the silver anniversary of this race,” said Dato’ Razlan.

The Malaysia MotoGP is the biggest two-wheel motorsports event on SIC’s calendar this year, featuring the Mega Moto Carnival – Malaysia’s biggest auto carnival with 108 booths – a 35% increase in booth allocation from 2014. The line-up includes special elements such as the MotoGP Wall of Fame, exclusive 25th anniversary merchandise and social media contests to celebrate the occasion as well as popular recurring activities like the SIC Zoomers roadshow happening from 25 September to 18 October 2015. Visitors to the Malaysia MotoGP can look forward to booths by the big names in the industry such as Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Ducati, Naza, Yamaha and SIC Racing team title sponsor Drive M7 as well as Tourism Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the race week line-up will thrill fans with returning favourites and exciting new events including a MotoGP pre-anniversary party, stunt shows, a Riders Mini GP Race, Public Pit Lane Walk, Riders’ Autograph Session, Safety Car Ride, Grid Walk and much more.

“The British MotoGP last weekend saw a record achievement for the Drive M7 SIC Racing team in Moto 3, securing its first podium finish with Jakub Kornfeil achieving second place, while Zulfahmi Khairuddin also collected points. This is history in the making, as the Drive M7 SIC Racing team is now not only SIC’s first ever team in the world championship, but is also the most successful Malaysian-based team to date in a world championship,” shared Dato’ Razlan.

“We hope to see more exciting results in the upcoming races, especially at Sepang as they are spurred by the power of Malaysian fan support. Malaysian fans will have many opportunities to wave the Jalur Gemilang with pride when they cheer on the Drive M7 SIC Racing team as well as our other Malaysian riders, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman in Moto 2, and five young talents in the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup (ATC) – Shafiq Rasol, Adam Norrodin, Helmi Azman, Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam and Azroy Anuar. Sports has a special ability to unify all Malaysians and we look forward to seeing Malaysians from all walks of life coming together to cheer on our riders and team,” he added.

“As the penultimate race, the Malaysia MotoGP 2015 is expected to see some neck to neck action. This year has seen some excellent form from Jorge Lorenzo plus great podium consistency from Valentino Rossi, while defending champion Marc Marquez has faced challenges in repeating his success. Rossi has just opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the championship table and we can be sure that Lorenzo will be wasting no time in making up the difference, while Marquez will want to defend the crown. The championship looks set to go down the wire. On the constructor front, Japanese giants Yamaha and Honda have unsurprisingly been ruling the track, with Ducati throwing a healthy challenge into the mix, so we can expect some thrilling moves on the track,” Dato’ Razlan commented.

For fans of Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, they can enjoy a special experience with the tribune areas. The VR46 Tribune, the special seating zone for Rossi’s supporters will be located above Turn 1, also Rossi’s favourite stop to honour his fans after the race. The VR46 Tribune will comprise the first six zones of the K1 Grandstand and provide an excellent view of the start of the race and action at the opening three corners. For Marc Marquez fans, the Marc Marquez Tribune is located at the Main Grandstand’s Diamond zone, which sits above the starting grid, offering the best view of the circuit and all the action. Tickets, which are valid for three days are selling at RM169.60 including GST for the VR46 Tribune and RM265 including GST for the Marc Marquez Tribune.
